Before we jump ahead to the details, here’s a rating snapshot of the Puffy Mattress after an extensive evaluation. This mattress review consists of different parts which include data collection, sleep testing, and in-house evaluation to verify the results. The Puffy Mattress has a high rating in motion isolation and pressure relief. However, we also found that it fails a bit when it comes to durability and performance during sex. Read on to learn more about the factors that affected our decisions behind these ratings. The Puffy Mattress is made of several foam layers that are encased in a high-quality fabric to keep them together. To understand how this mattress offers support and comfort to various sleepers, let’s take a closer look at its materials. Mattress Cover The soft fabric cover of the Puffy Mattress uses a blend of standard polyester and lycra. This combination allows the fabric cover to be stretchable enough to fit the mattress better than regular mattress covers. This cover is stain-resistant and easy to remove and wash with its zippered enclosure. Comfort Layer Peeking under its cover, the Puffy Mattress has 2 layers of foams that provide sufficient comfort to different sleepers. The first layer is gel-infused memory foam which is also known as the Cooling Cloud Foam that is 2″ thick. This layer of foam is made with cooling gel microbeads that work with its temperature regulation properties, which standard memory foam mattresses lack. With a low-density rate of 2.5 PCF, this layer of foam also promotes a soft pillow-like feeling and pressure relief. Transition Layer For its second foam layer, the Puffy Mattress consists of double-duty foam that works as a comfort and transition layer. This is also known as the Body Adapting Dual Cloud Foam layer which is also 2″ thick. Since it is made of a temperature-resistant polyfoam, it feels denser than regular memory foams. Its initial comfort feel prevents most sleepers from sinking too deep into its firmer support foam layer. Base Layer In addition to the previous foams above, the Puffy Mattress also has a thick 6″ foam core support layer. This thick layer of polyfoam has a high-density construction which is 1.5 PCF. Its density rating makes it stronger compared with the softer layers of foams above to stabilize the entire mattress. It can also prevent the bed from sagging. On the other hand, this layer of foam is not that great when it comes to edge support. Now that you know all the important parts of the Puffy Mattress, let’s take a closer look at its performance ratings. To cover the vital aspects of the best mattress, these are the factors that we used as the basis of our ratings: Durability Since Puffy was established, the company has remained true to its goal to use the best materials and construction to guarantee durability. Since this mattress is made of synthetic materials, it is not as durable as natural latex and/or innerspring mattresses. Its low-density foam layer may feel great for those who enjoy a pillow-like feel but density affects its overall durability. Low-density foams tend to lose their support and comfort sooner than high-density foams. If you’re a lightweight sleeper, this may not be a big issue. Motion Isolation Based on verified customer experiences, the Puffy Mattress has good motion isolation. Thus, most sleepers feel less movement whenever their partner or even their pet(s) shift or get in bed. There may be a slight dip while sitting on the edge but its layers of foams are enough to isolate the motion. Edge Support As mentioned above, the edge support of this mattress is pretty much on the average level. Regardless of their weight, testers noticed that the mattress tips when they’re sitting on the edge. This makes it harder to get in/out of the bed. Lightweight and average-weight sleepers may find its edge support good enough but not heavyweight sleepers. If you’re looking for a mattress with solid edge support, you may want to check out hybrid or innerspring mattresses. Pressure Relief The Puffy Mattress offers impressive pressure relief thanks to its Cooling Cloud Comfort Layer and Body Adapting Dual Cloud Layer. These layers provide body-contouring comfort to all types of sleepers. In addition to its soft comforting feel, this layer also provides sufficient support, especially to side sleepers. It promotes proper spinal alignment for back, side, and stomach sleepers. However, its offered pressure relief may not be enough for some stomach and heavyweight back sleepers since they usually sank deeper. Thus, it suits lightweight to average-weight sleepers who weigh less than 230 lbs. Temperature Control Memory foams are known for overheating and triggering night sweats, especially in hot sleepers. As a solution, Puffy added a Climate Control layer in the mattress to maintain your preferred cool sleeping temperature. Its cooling gel beads are there to absorb your excess body heat and disperse it out of the mattress. Noise Enjoying a peaceful sleep is possible with this all-foam mattress which doesn’t create disruptive noises. Even if you’re sensitive to noise, you should not have a problem with this bed. Good for Sex If you want satisfying sex in mind, it’s worth investing in a responsive mattress. In the case of this mattress, you will not get much bounce since it has a soft and low-density foam layer. Its memory foam delays its response time which can be an issue when shifting positions or indulging in sexual activities. Although we already mentioned important factors that involve the weight of sleepers, we will expound it more in this section. Light Weight – below 130 lbs Generally, this Puffy Mattress suits lightweight sleepers. It has a balanced combination of soft and firmer foam layers that make it comfortable for different sleeping positions. It provides enough softness and firmness for side sleepers to prevent their shoulder and hips from sinking deeper. At the same time, it helps maintain proper spinal alignment. Then again, this is not the case for other stomach sleepers whose hips tend to sink deeper into its memory foam. Medium Weight – between 130 to 230 lbs For average-weight sleepers, this mattress works best for back and/or stomach sleepers. It foam layers cradle the hips and shoulders while keeping the spine properly aligned. This provides enough pressure relief to lessen the muscle stiffness due to sleep. For those average-weight sleepers who like a softer mattress, this Puffy Mattress works great. However, those who prefer a firmer mattress might find it less supportive. Heavy Weight – over 230 lbs Despite having a medium-firmness, this mattress is not the best choice for sleepers who weigh more than 230 lbs. As an all-foam mattress that consists of a mix of low density and high-density foam layers, it offers enhanced support. However, its amount of support is not enough to accommodate heavier sleepers. The more its foams are compressed due to heavy pressure, the less pressure relief and support it provides. Generally, the Puffy Mattress is good for side, back, and stomach sleepers. However, the level of comfort and support varies in each sleeper’s weight and preferred sleeping position. As mentioned above, most sleepers don’t have any issues with the Puffy Mattress as long as they weigh below 130 lbs. Heavy side sleepers had the worst trouble. Warranty One of the things that makes Puffy stand out from other companies is its warranty. Puffy’s business hours are open from Monday to Friday 6:3AM – 8:00 PM, and Saturday to Sunday 8:00 – 5:00 PM. Leesa may be 2 years older than Puffy but this doesn’t mean that the latter can’t gain an advantage. Both mattresses are made with triple layers of foams but the Leesa mattress is more popular for side and back sleepers. This is due to its enhanced support which promotes spinal alignment and fewer back pains to sleepers over the years. Meanwhile, the Puffy Mattress is much better for solo or couples who want a mattress with better motion isolation. The latter’s middle part of the mattress is designed to provide comforting pressure relief and undisturbed sleep every night. If you already suffer from lower back pain, or if you’re back and side sleeper, you’ll enjoy Leesa more. The Casper may seem to share some qualities with the Puffy but that doesn’t mean that they are the same. Both all-foam mattresses have a medium feel and the capacity to hold lightweight to average weight sleepers comfortably. Both mattresses also provide pressure relief and enough support for side sleepers. On the other hand, Puffy’s memory foam provides better motion isolation to sleepers compared to Casper. Puffy also has more responsive foam that can regulate temperature to keep you comfortable throughout your sleep. Most importantly, it has a lifetime warranty period whereas Casper has only a 10-year limited warranty. Casper is a better option for those who want a bouncier mattress with better edge support. The Puffy and Loom & Leaf mattresses are both all-foam mattresses but the latter has a medium and firm version. Both models stand taller than the Puffy Mattress which is only 10″ tall. The Loom & Leaf mattress also has an additional comfort layer which is provided by its organic cotton quilted cover. Puffy has gel-infused memory foam, while Loom & Leaf has a convoluted top foam layer laminated with gel beads for cooling. The open structure of the convoluted foam increases the airflow through the mattress to regulate temperature. At the same time, this foam provides pressure relief to make the mattress less confining compared with regular memory foams. Another thing that makes Puffy different from Loom & Leaf is its lower density memory foam. The latter two memory foams with 4 and 5 PCF while the former has 2.5 PCF foam only. You already know that Puffy has a neutral foam feel whereas the Nectar has a pure memory foam feel. Nectar also feels a bit firmer compared with the Puffy Mattress. It works for sleepers who prefer a dense memory feel. If you’re a small to medium-sized individual who prefers a mattress that feels something in between, get Puffy. It’s the kind of mattress that practical shoppers want for its removable cover that is stain-resistant. It also offers more pressure relief for those who want a softer mattress. Compared with the Puffy Mattress, the Puffy Lux mattress is 2 inches” taller. Its thicker profile is due to its additional comfort layer which includes 2 layers of 1.5″ polyfoams. One is constructed with temperature-resistant properties instead of a single layer that is 2″ thick. There’s also 1″ memory foam and 7″ high-density polyfoam support core layer that completes it. Lux features better edge support and thicker comfort layer which the original version lacks. Due to its thicker profile and more solid construction especially on the edges, Lux is the perfect choice for heavy sleepers. Just like the original Puffy Mattress, Puffy Lux also has a medium firmness. Therefore, the original is recommended for light to medium sleepers, while we can recommend Lux to sleepers of all sizes.
