As mentioned above, the Casper mattress comes in different versions: the Original, and the Hybrid version. For this review, we will focus on the Original version which is an all-foam mattress. From the Marpac brand, Yogabed is a one-of-a-kind mattress that is made of memory foam. Since both are foam mattresses, we will break down the layers of these mattresses so be sure to keep reading.

Construction

Upon checking the construction of this mattress, it is composed of 4 layers. These layers of premium foams make up its 12 inches height. Starting with its fabric which encases these layers, the Casper mattress is protected by a sturdier cover. Compared with its older version, its latest is designed to last longer even though it is quite thin and porous. Under this cover is a layer of innovative foam which is 1.5 inches thick. This latex-like foam creates a responsive layer which is bouncy enough to give you a comfortable sleep. Next to the top layer is a layer of pressure-relieving foam which is 1.5 inches thick as well. This layer is designed to absorb your weight and reinforce the top layer. Its third layer of material is a zoned support foam or transition foam which is also 1.5 inches thick. Casper placed this foam is between the support foam and the base foam which is the thickest layer in this mattress. The base layer is 7 inches thick to make sure that you are always comfortable in your sleep.

Firmness

The Original Casper mattress has the signature “just right” feel which has around 5.5 ratings in a sale of 1 to 10. With 1 as the softest and 10 as the firmest, you will certainly feel the balanced firmness of this mattress. It may not be that bouncy like the traditional mattresses but it can hug your body while you sleep. Regardless of your preferred sleeping position, it can allow you to move with ease. You can also stop worrying about the pressure as you press your shoulders and hips into the mattress.

Support

In addition to the points above, its foams also feel softer under the shoulders and hips to help relieve pressure. When it comes to the hips, it feels firmer for guaranteed support. It can even help maintain your spine’s proper alignment while relieving pressure points.  Its zoned support is specifically designed to provide a durable and comfy spine alignment. Of course, this mattress is also a versatile version that can absorb your weight and distribute it evenly on the surface. You can even partner it with a platform bed, adjustable bed frames, etc. to ensure its support while you sleep.

Temperature Regulation

Are you one of those people who usually sleep warm? If yes, then this mattress can help address your needs for a cooler bed. It has breathable foams that come in handy for hot sleepers especially during the summer season. These foams are designed with open-cell construction which features tiny pores to allow better airflow. This includes letting the excess hot air flow out of the mattress to give you a cool and comfortable sleep.

These layers make up its 10 inches height which might suit your needs. Moving on with each part of its construction, let’s start with its cover too which is both removable and washable. If you’re a bit OC and prefer washing the cover, this is a mattress to pick. This is followed by a thick layer of support foam which is 6.5 inches tall. Last but not the least, a 1 inch thick layer of firm foam got its foundation covered.

Firmness

Compared with the Casper mattress, the Yogabed is a little bit firmer. On a scale of 1 to 10, we’d say that it is around 6 which sits between medium and medium-firm. It got that slight feel of memory foam so you don’t have to worry about sinking into the mattress. Compared with the other brand, it can’t hug your body as much as the other brand can. On the other hand, Yogabed creates more bounce which is great for enjoying more response. This is thanks to its first layer with neutral foam feel and instant response. Its balanced feel of proper neutral foam and memory foam allows it to accommodate almost all kinds of sleepers.

Support

In connection with the firmness level of the Yogabed mattress, it can provide a proper amount of support. No matter what kind of position you feel like sleeping, its body support can meet your satisfaction level. Just be prepared for some extra bounce which may cause some issues for those who hate a bouncy bed. But if you want a bouncy bed for you or your children, this is the bed that can suit you. But despite this characteristic, it has a minimal motion transfer that couples can take advantage of. Its YogaComfort system and is designed to provide optimal support using its 4 layers of foams.

Temperature Regulation

As long as its temperature regulation feature is working efficiently, you can sleep in a cool mattress all night. Its layer of YogaGel acts as the cooling and support layer to increase the compression of the mattress.

Differences

When it comes to affordability, we’ can say that Yogabed is a bit more generous. It comes with an option that includes 2 Yogasleep pillows with 28 x 16 x 4.5 inches dimension. Also, its price range from $498.99 (Twin) to $898.99 (King and California King). Meanwhile, the cost of Original Casper mattress ranges from $595 (Twin) to $1,195 (King and California King). If you want to include a Casper foundation in the package, you have to add $250. When it comes to the mattress height or thickness, the Casper mattress is 2 inches taller than the Yogabed mattress. Even though both have the same number of layers, Yogabed is more compact. It is also encased in a cover that is easier to clean and replace. Despite having the same length of the warranty period, Casper comes with 100 trial nights only while Yogabed has 101 trial nights.

Verdict

To help you decide which mattress to pick, these questions might come in handy:

What kind of mattress do you like?

If you like a slightly firm but bouncy foam mattress, Yogabed is your best option. But if you like a softer foam mattress where you can sink in a bit, Casper is a great option.

How much is your budget?

If you’re on a tight budget, it is pretty clear that Yogabed is the more affordable option. But if you can pay more for a thicker mattress, you can go for Casper.
